New Host for El Charrito!

Beginning Thursday, January 3rd, Timmi Lasley will be taking over as host of El Charrito’s open mic!  She’ll be taking the reins from Nick Gossert, who’s taking a break to focus on the production of a feature film, El Tecolote Vs. The Dead!  The show, which has always been a lot of fun, is every Thursday at 10:30.  See you there!

Anonymous asked: Are there any clean open mics in Denver? If my act if for mature audiences, where should I avoid?

Only thing to avoid here is pigeonholing yourself. All the mics in Denver will be mature-friendly, but broaden those horizons and write yourself a clean set, if only for funsies, Anon!

Anonymous asked: Where is the best open mic on Monday?

Denver: Lion’s Lair, 10 p.m., though there’s a new mic starting at Quixote’s True Blue (formerly Bender’s) at 8 p.m., thereby making it possible to hit two mics on Mondays.

Fort Collins: Hodi’s, 7 p.m. (and then go to the East Coast showcase!)

Greeley: Down-Under, 8:30 p.m.

For more info on all of these open mics and more, visit our Open Mic page!

Additions, Subtractions

The past few weeks have seen some changes in the Denver open mic landscape. Two shows—Bender’s Tavern and Scruffy Murphy’s—have closed their doors, but new shows are always being added, and the lists here have changed accordingly. Here’s a brief overview of the new additions to the Open Mic and Showcase pages:

  • Sundays have added the Matchbox Open Mic at 11 p.m. with host Kevin O’Brien. Best set of the night wins “A Drink With Ol’ Kev.”
  • Mondays at the Down Under in Greeley now include a pre-open mic writers group starting at 6:30.
  • Wednesdays have a variety of new shows for your enjoyment. Ladies Laugh-In at Beauty Bar has changed dates, hosts and names to become Delusions of Randeur, with Kristin Rand and Randy Washington, on the third Wednesday of every month. Also, The Mayor of Old Town in Fort Collins is back every week through the winter and Underground Comedy at the Gypsy House Cafe in Denver continues every third Wednesday.
  • Finally, Saturdays have a mic for you! Once a month at Rooster and Moon, what was formerly the Denver Comedy Co-Op on the second Monday of every month is the Prime Time Good Friends Comedy Show on the second Saturday at 6:30.

Specifics for these shows and dozens more across Colorado are available at their respective pages: Open Mics and Showcases. Have a show in Colorado that you’d like listed? Drop me a line using the Submit link at the top of the page!

Hello from Colorado’s bottom bunk!

From albuquerquecomedy:

Just writing to let you all know how highly we in NM think of you all in CO.

Down in here in ol’ BreakingBadsville we’re working hard to bring shows to the people and the comedians here love, love, love comedy just as the comedians do all across this great land. Denver-wise, we’re such big fans of the FGC, the Grawlix, Ladyface, etc. and any chance we get to visit y’all is a great opportunity to be among some of the best comedy in the U.S. of A. For real.

If any of the comedians are ever thinking of stopping into Albuquerque, please feel free to contact us and we’ll find stage time for you.

On the other side of the coin, if fans of comedy wanna catch a show in our clubless town, honestly, checking out albuquerquecomedy.com is the best way to find out information. I promise, that sentence didn’t start out as a commercial. Just legit-ly pointing to a resource. Promise.

We’re lucky to have a thriving comedy community so close to our growing one. Thank you for being so awesome. Keep doin’ whatcha do. And hey, think about doin’ whatcha do down here once and awhile. We’ll treat you like kings.

Hell, damn, ass kings.

Truth be spoken! Comedians: if you ever find yourself in the Duke City, get in touch with these fine folks through the above website. Comedy fans: if you ever find yourself etc., etc., be sure to check out a show or two!

Thanks for the submission!

Tonight: a benefit for Mara Wiles with TJ Miller

Tonight at Lodo’s Bar, the Grapes of Rad will be presenting TJ Miller in a benefit for Denver comedian Mara Wiles and her quest to find and install a new kidney.

From the Facebook event:

THIS IS A 100% BENEFIT AND ALL COMICS ARE DONATING THEIR TIME TO THIS. Lodo’s is donating it’s venue for Mara.

We’re helping one of Denver’s funniest comics and comrade Mara Wiles pay her ever escalating, kidney relate medical bills. At this point picture a montage of a series of sweet/wacky smiling Mara faces as Bruce Springsteen sings, “We Take Care of Our Own.” Don’t do it because it’s cool, do it because you need that type of imaginative gymnastics. For you.

The show starts at 9 p.m., and features Andrew Orvedahl, Adam Cayton-Holland, Kevin O’Brien and your headliner, TJ Miller. You know. From the TV and movies and stuff. Not only will this be a spectacular show, it’s for an amazing cause. So get your butts downtown tonight and help sell this sucker out!

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. Say you can’t make it but still want to help. You can hit up Mara’s page on HelpHOPELive, donate what you can and spread the word!

Here’s the show deets:

  • The Grapes of Rad Present: TJ Miller
    Lodo’s Bar
    1946 Market St.
    Denver, CO 80202
    9 p.m. $15 21+

Again, all proceeds from this show are going to Mara. Come out tonight and support one of Denver’s best!
